SOME constituents of the Lagos West Senatorial District on Monday expressed mixed feelings over the performance of Sen. Idiat Adebule after three years in office.
The constituents spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of the Lagos West Senatorial District primary election, held at Alimosho Local Government.
A cleric from Agbado Oke Odo, Mr Ebenezer Shorinola, commended Adebule’s performance but urged her to improve engagement with constituents.
“She has done well, especially in the area of education and empowerment, but she is too far from us.
“We want her to hold quarterly or bi-annual meetings with constituents, so that she can better understand our challenges. She is too far from us,” Shorinola said.
He said that the senator was representing about 28 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), adding that due to the huge population, constituents still desired more empowerment programmes.
Also speaking, Mr Terry Adeniji from Alimosho, said that party members had gathered to support the party’s consensus candidate due to respect for party’s decision.
“Personally, I do not think she has done much for the constituency since being in the Senate, but we have no choice than to abide by the party’s decision
“We hope she improves in her performance going forward.
“We are all working together for her to retain the seat again. She is unopposed and we are here to carry out the party’s mandate,” Adeniji said.
A woman, who pleaded anonymity, noted that the senator had not done enough for the constituency, as she could not point to any major achievement by the lawmaker.
She, however, noted that she attended the exercise out of loyalty and respect for the party.
In a different view, Mrs Bukola Agbabiaka, a business woman in Iyana Ipaja, said that the senator had impacted positively on communities through solar-powered street lights, health centres and road projects.
Agbabiaka, however, appealed to the lawmaker to intensify efforts in youth empowerment to reduce restiveness among youths.
Meanwhile, Mr Idowu Adegoke from Mosan-Okunola LCDA, said that party members remained united ahead of the election.
“We have no divisions in the party and we are all here to vote for our consensus candidate for Lagos West Senatorial Constituency.
“Our expectation is to see her clinch the seat again for the APC and we hope for more progress in the party,” Adegoke said.
Similarly, Mr Saheed Oyekunle from Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA, said that Adebule had been in the Senate and had been doing well, hence, the unanimous support of another term for her.
“However, we urge her to do more for Alimosho and the general constituency when she returns to the Senate.
“We also want her to strengthen unity within the party, to make it stronger and more united,” he said. (NAN)
