The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral report claiming that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwukwu Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, was suspended due to a faulty registration machine.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Delta State, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, described the report as false, misleading, and not originating from the commission.
She explained that the CVR exercise is progressing as scheduled under INEC’s approved rotation timetable, noting that the registration team had been deployed to Ibusa on Thursday, where the exercise was successfully conducted.
According to the commission, the registration centre in Akwukwu Igbo is scheduled to resume operations from July 6 to July 10, in line with the structured rotation of registration centres across the local government area.
INEC urged residents of Akwukwu Igbo and neighbouring communities to disregard the viral publication and rely solely on information released through its official communication channels.
The commission also encouraged eligible residents to continue with their voter registration and data update exercises as scheduled, assuring them that the exercise had not been cancelled or disrupted.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and accessible Continuous Voter Registration process across Delta State, while assuring all eligible residents of equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
