THE Acting Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget, Abdul Ajumawa, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to working with development partners to improve nutrition and food security for women and children.
This is contained in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday in Kano by the ministry’s Director of Special Assignments, Halima Ahmad-Ishaq.
Ajumawa said the ministry, in collaboration with UNICEF’s Kano Field Office, convened a review and coordination meeting of the State Committee on Food and Nutrition SCFN to strengthen multi-sectoral action on nutrition and food security.
He said the meeting, themed: “Strengthening Multi-Sectoral Actions for Improved Nutrition and Food Security in Kano State” was held in Kaduna.
The acting permanent secretary, who also chairs the SCFN, emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to tackle malnutrition and improve food security.
He noted that reviewing progress from January to December 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 would help stakeholders identify gaps, share best practices, and enhance programme delivery.
Dr Chizoba Stave-Ederiba, Nutrition Specialist at the UNICEF Abuja Country Office, and Dr Karan Veer-Singh, Nutrition Manager at UNICEF Kano, commended the state for its achievements in nutrition programme implementation.
They urged SCFN members to improve coordination and collaboration to boost nutrition service delivery across the state.
Committee Secretary Nasir Abdulkadir said the meeting aimed to review programme delivery, assess achievements and challenges, strengthen stakeholder coordination, and develop recommendations to improve nutrition interventions in Kano State. NAN
