APC primaries: Two senators lose tickets as Fasoranti, Kekemeke, Elegbeleye emerge candidates in Ondo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday night announced the results of its senatorial district primary elections across Ondo State, with two incumbent senators losing their bids to return to the National Assembly.

The outcome of the primaries signals a major shift in the political landscape of Ondo State, with party members opting for new candidates in two of the three senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 general elections

Emerging from the exercise are Dr Taiwo Fasoranti for Ondo Central, Isaac Kekemeke for Ondo South, and Gbenga Elegbeleye for Ondo North.

The results were declared at the party’s state secretariat in Akure by the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Iboroma Harry Dabibi, following the submission of collated votes by returning officers from the three senatorial districts.

In Ondo Central, Fasoranti secured a landslide victory with 36,652 votes, defeating incumbent senator, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, who polled 5,733 votes. Another aspirant, Sylvester Muyiwa Adu, garnered 1,245 votes.

Similarly, in Ondo South, Kekemeke clinched the party’s ticket with 35,000 votes. Other contenders trailed behind, with Akinfolarin Mayowa Samuel scoring 6,435 votes, Morayo Lebi polling 1,875 votes, and Akingboye Taiwo Oyewumi securing 842 votes.

Further down the list, Catherine Oladunni Odu recorded 290 votes, Jumoke Akindele got 339 votes, while Agboola Ajayi polled 670 votes.

In Ondo North, Elegbeleye emerged victorious with 28,062 votes, defeating a strong field of aspirants. Ajipe Alex came second with 17,313 votes, while the incumbent senator, Olajide Ipinsagba, trailed with 9,819 votes.

Other contestants in the district include Adeogun Adejoro, who polled 3,845 votes; Tunji Muhammed, who secured 1,076 votes; and Michael Adeyanju, who recorded 640 votes.
