Activist and human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has urged the Nigerian government to effect the immediate arrest of controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi for allegedly promoting “terrorism” amid rising insecurity in the country.
The Abuja-based legal practitioner made the call on Wednesday via a video shared on his official Facebook page.
His demand followed a now-trending video in which the Kaduna State-based cleric allegedly defended bandits.
In the clip, Gumi was heard saying that Fulani herdsmen are going nowhere, adding that “they are part of us and we are part of them. We must live with them.”

Reacting to the statement, Adeyanju called on the government to take necessary action against him, arguing that terrorist sympathisers should be treated as terrorists.
He further noted that those who blatantly make cases for terrorists can only walk freely in a failed state.
Speaking via his verified page, he said, “People like Gumi can only survive in a country without a government. Terrorist sympathisers are terrorists.
“His words and actions promote terrorism in Nigeria. I call on the government to arrest him to serve as a deterrent to others.”
