The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos governorship aspirant, Samuel Ajose, has dropped his ambition as he declared support for the candidacy of the current Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Ajose who remained the only aspirant seeking to challenge Hamzat for the APC governorship ticket, announced his withdrawal from the race.
He made the announcement while addressing his supporters during a meeting on Tuesday.
While hailing the visibly emotional members of his the support group, Ajose maintained that he withdrew from the race in the interest of the party.
He expressed readiness to support Hamzat’s candidacy ans be part of his campaign.
“In the history of Lagos politics, nobody has achieved what we have achieved together.
“In the interest of the party, I Dr. Samuel Ajose, have decided that I will let go. I will support Dr. Hamzat.
“We are going to be part of his campaign. We are going to take a very important position in his campaign.” Ajose said.
The aspirant further expressed his gratitude to his followers as he acknowledged their shock over the decision.
He assured them the decision to withdraw from the race is the best decision to be taken for the interest of the state.
“I want to thank everybody once again. I appreciate all your support.
“I know some people are dumbfounded and shocked. This is the best decision that we can take now in the interest of Lagos state.” Ajose said.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal of the aspirant has further cemented the emergence of Hamzat as the consensus candidate of the APC ahead of the 2027 Govrrnorship election.
NPO Reported that the deputy governor have widely been endorsed and adopted by the leaders and stakeholders of the Lagos APC.
Coupled with his endorsement by his principal, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat was also endorsed by Femi Gbajabiamala, Chief of Staff to the President: Mudashiru Obasa, Lagos Assembly Speaker; as well as the Lagos Governing Advisory Council (GAC) who presented him to President Bola Tinubu as their adopted candidate.
