A former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has expressed optimism that Nigeria will experience a political rebirth through the 2027 general elections.
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the country would survive what he described as the maladministration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under President Bola Tinubu.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the former senator stated this in a post on his official Facebook page.
In the post, Melaye urged Nigerians to support the push for what he called a new Nigeria.
He said the next general election would provide citizens an opportunity to change the direction of the country.
“Nigeria will survive APC. A new Nigeria is coming. Join the New Nigeria train,” the former lawmaker wrote.
Melaye’s comment comes as opposition figures continue to criticise the ruling party over the state of the economy, insecurity and governance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Melaye, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, is a strong supporter of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku is considered one of the frontline presidential aspirants within the ADC ahead of the next election.
Although some opposition leaders in the defunct coalition have gone their separate ways, Melaye and Atiku have continued to maintain that a new political direction is possible in 2027.
The ruling party, on the other hand, has repeatedly expressed confidence in its chances of retaining power.
