President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to actively support the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse following a major operation carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The President made the call after the anti-drug agency announced the successful interception of large quantities of illegal drugs during a series of coordinated raids across different parts of the country. According to reports, the operation led to the arrest of several suspects believed to be linked to drug distribution networks operating within and outside Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, Tinubu praised the NDLEA for its commitment and professionalism in tackling the growing menace of drug trafficking. He described the agency’s latest operation as a strong warning to criminal groups involved in the illegal drug trade.
The President stressed that drug abuse and trafficking continue to pose serious threats to public safety, national development, and the future of young Nigerians. He noted that the government alone cannot completely win the battle without the cooperation of citizens, communities, and relevant stakeholders.
Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to provide useful information to security agencies whenever they notice suspicious activities related to drugs within their neighborhoods. He also called on parents, religious leaders, schools, and community groups to educate young people about the dangers of substance abuse.
The NDLEA has intensified its nationwide crackdown in recent months, targeting drug cartels, traffickers, and illegal storage facilities. The agency said the recent operation was part of ongoing efforts to reduce the circulation of hard drugs and strengthen national security.
Security analysts have continued to warn that the increasing spread of illicit drugs contributes to rising cases of crime, violence, and mental health challenges among youths. Many Nigerians have also applauded the NDLEA for sustaining pressure on criminal networks despite the risks involved in anti-drug operations.
