A man known only as Golden has been confirmed dead following a shooting in the Igando area of Lagos State. According to a police source, the attack took place on Tuesday in the Fatoki area of the community.

It was gathered that approximately two assailants rode into the neighbourhood on a motorcycle, apparently having specifically targeted the deceased.

They located him and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Officers deployed to Fatoki Street found the victim lying in a pool of blood and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His remains were subsequently moved to the morgue.

The police declined to speak on the motive behind the attack, stating that investigations are still underway.

However, anti-cultism advocacy platform Confra Naija offered an alternative account on social media, stating that while the names of two cult groups Aye and Vikings had been mentioned in connection with the incident, sources close to the matter confirmed the attack had no cult dimension.

The platform suggested the killing stemmed from a business dispute linked to internet fraud. It further noted that Golden had been sitting outside when the attackers arrived on their motorcycle and shot him in the head.

Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, for an official response were unsuccessful, with calls going unanswered and a text message unreplied to at the time of filing.

The killing comes just five days after a shawarma vendor identified as Andy was fatally shot by suspected cultists in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State, raising fresh concerns about the frequency of such attacks across the state.
