Son docked over alleged theft of mother’s property valued N1.8m

THE Police on Monday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Oluwafemi Adeoti, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, over alleged stealing his mother’s property valued at N1,800,000.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing charges of stealing, breach of peace and threat to life.

He however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences sometimes in 2025, at about 2.00.p.m, at Abati Street, Aiyetoro, Elijah Area, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant stole one gas cylinder, generator, Plasma TV, cooker and one tipper of sand valued at N1,800,000 belonging to his mother, Sijuwade Adeoti, the complainant.

He said that the defendant also unlawfully transferred N20,000 from the complainant’s account using the bank application on her phone.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by stealing his mother’s property.

“The defendant threatened with violence to kill his mother, the complainant.

“He was later caught by the people and handed over to Police for prosecution.

“The offences contravened Sections 287, 168 and 56 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015,” the prosecutor said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum

He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader.

Layeni adjourned the case until May 21, for mention. NAN
