Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has revealed that his decision to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by the need to help rebuild the state.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he made this known during his formal reception at the PDP secretariat in Owerri, where he explained that his exit from the APC was not based on personal grudges but on his belief that the party no longer reflects the values he once stood for.
According to him, the party has moved away from rewarding loyalty and has instead treated committed members unfairly.
Madumere said he could no longer remain in a system where those who worked for the growth of the party are not respected. He added that the APC, in its current form, no longer aligns with his political goals.
Speaking on his return to the PDP, the former deputy governor said he is convinced that the party provides a better platform for rebuilding Imo State and restoring dignity to its people. He stated that the state needs proper direction, unity, and leadership that focuses on the welfare of the people.
He described his move as more than a personal decision, noting that it reflects his renewed commitment to the future of Imo State. He also said he is ready to work with party members to strengthen unity, encourage grassroots participation, and promote fairness within the party.
Madumere recalled that when he joined politics over two decades ago, his aim was to support good governance, encourage loyalty, and contribute to development. He said he became disappointed after realizing that those goals could no longer be achieved within the APC.
He expressed confidence that the PDP’s ideas and direction are in line with his beliefs, adding that the party offers hope for real progress, especially for young people. He promised to use his experience to support party growth and ensure it remains connected to the people.
The former deputy governor also pledged to attract more supporters to the PDP, particularly youths, while working to strengthen the party’s structure.
He thanked PDP leaders at both the national and state levels for welcoming him and his supporters, saying the reception showed a sense of inclusion.
Madumere further stated that he is committed to supporting policies that will improve living conditions, create jobs, boost the economy, and develop infrastructure across communities in the state.
