The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has described the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election as a major test of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sani, who serves as the Chairman of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Campaign Council, said the outcome of the June 20 poll would reflect the level of acceptance of the ruling party under President Bola Tinubu.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the governor made the remarks on Sunday evening upon his arrival at the Ado-Ekiti Airport ahead of Monday’s official flag-off of the APC governorship campaign for the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
A total of 13 political parties are expected to participate in the election.
Sani was received at the airport by a delegation of Ekiti State Government officials led by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye.
He was later accompanied to the Government House by Oyebanji, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and members of the Ekiti State Caucus of the National Assembly.
Speaking on the significance of the election, Sani said, “The outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election will reflect the strength and acceptability of the ruling party’s leadership under President Bola Tinubu.”
He added that the poll would serve as a political barometer for the APC as it prepares for future electoral contests.
‘Oyebanji Has Earned Victory’
The Kaduna governor expressed confidence that Oyebanji had already secured the goodwill of the electorate through his performance in office.
He described the Ekiti governor as a committed and inclusive leader whose achievements had translated into visible development across the state.
According to Sani, Oyebanji’s strides in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment and human capital development have positioned him for a resounding victory.
“My dear brother, Governor Oyebanji, has done extremely well, and for me, I’m just here to support what he has done, and I have no doubt in my mind that the Ekiti people have seen everything,” he said.
‘Election Mere Formality’
Highlighting specific areas of performance, Sani said the governor’s record would naturally earn him a fresh mandate.
“In education, he has done extremely well. Looking at infrastructure, socio-economic empowerment of youths, we have seen what he has done; he has done very well and I have no doubt in my mind that the people of Ekiti will support him for continuity, which is very important.
“This election is just a formality,” he added.
