The Yorubaland warlord, Aare Ona Kakanfo, Otunba Gani Adams, has faulted the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network led by the self-acclaimed Yoruba ethnic advocate, Sunday Igboho.
Adams faulted the tactics deployed by Sunday Igboho, stressing that battles are not won with deployment of cameras and drones to record operations.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo made this known while addressing a group of guests who paid a visit to his residence.
Speaking in Yoruba in a video shared on X on Thursday, the warlord warned Igboho against putting the lives of kidnap victims in danger as he labelled the recording of rescue operation a catastrophe on security strategy.
“Aare Ona Kakanfo won’t go to battle with cameras. It is the results of battle fought by Aare is what the camera will show.
“Aare doesn’t need drones which is a secret part of an intelligence report and be showing it to the public.
“Aare can’t be in the palace and be saying we’ve tracked you. This is where you are. That is what we call catastrophe on security strategy.” He said.
Gani Adams recalled some of the rescue operation carried out under his directives.
He said none of the rescue operations were recorded until the victims were rescued.
“All the breakthrough we’ve recorded so far, you won’t see us when we were going for the operation. It is until the day we liberate the victims that you will get to know.”
“The one which happened at Amuwo-Odofin just three weeks ago, they kidnapped some Igbos and Cotonou indigenes. They didn’t record the rescue mission until the victims were liberated.” Gani Adams said.
He warned that recording and post of information about the rescue mission on social media will put the victims at the risk of being killed by their abductors.
“The moment you record and post them, and the insurgents are aware of how close you are to them, they will go deeper into their hideout.
“In the process, you are putting the lives of the victims in danger. They can kill the victims once they notice you are closing in on them.
“You fight battle with brain not for show-off.” He said.
Gani Adams further warned against handling the insecurity case in a similar version with the Yoruba Nation agitation.
“The security situation in Yorubaland should not be handled the way they destroyed the Yoruba Nation’s struggle.
“They claimed the rescued some victims. But the police and local government chairman said nobody had been released.
“It was those released about two weeks ago that the police confirmed.” He stated.
The Yoruba elder statesman however called for collaboration among all security networks in Yorubaland to record massive achievement in the fight against insecurity in the region.
“I will only do the little I can. If we really want to achieve something bigger, we all need to collaborate and work together.” He said.
Speaking on the ongoing processing of the state policing bill at the National Assembly, Gani Adams claimed to have raised the suggestion over 20 years ago while defending his inaction on the case of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state.
“Secondly, I’ve been calling for state policing for over 20 years. Is it not the same state policing that the National Assembly is doing now? They are currently doing the bill across the 36 states.
“For a warlord to fight, he must agree with the kabiyesi, meet the Ooni of Ife and the authorities.
“You don’t expect me to march into the bush with 3,000 personnel without the approval of the governor.” He said.
