The Oyo State Government has issued a seven-ultimatum for scavengers in Ojoo community in Ibadan to evacuate following a deadly clash between the Hausa and Yoruba residents.
NPO Reported that a clash had in the early hours of Wednesday occurred after Yoruba commercial tricycle operator was allegedly stabbed to death by a Hausa man on Tuesday night.
The unrest led to the burning of several shops and properties with many members from both groups reportedly injured.
Coupled with the deceased tricyclist, four other persons have been confirmed dead during the clash.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, had in the wake of the clash paid a visit to the community on behalf of the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
On his arrival, the Yoruba residents demanded that the state government evacuate the Hausas from the community.
They alleged that the scavengers living in makeshift structures along the hilly pat of the community were stockpiling firearms.
In reaction after meeting the aggrieved residents, the Lawal summoned the leaders of the Hausa community to the government house in Ibadan where he gave them seven days ultimatum to evacuate the scavengers and others from Ojoo.
One of the leaders, whose name was not disclosed, made this known while addressing newsmen after the meeting.
“The Deputy Governor called us together with the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government.
“”He spoke to us that what is happening here, the government is not happy with it. He gave us directive that all those Boola people should be moved and that the land belongs to him.
“That is what the excellency said. He said he wants that place to be cleared within seven days.” He said.
The Hausa community leader however claimed that those who carried out the attacks in Ojoo were not members of the community.
He claimed they were mobilised from other communities without being briefed on what happened,
“We the northern people, if anything happens to us, we report. But the problem of this area is that if something happened to their person, they would escalate it.
“They will not come and find what is happening. They just mobilise people we dey Sango, Moniya. They will call the area boys.” He said.
