Swedish club BK Häcken have signed Nigerian striker Joy Omewa from English club Nottingham Forest, Soccernet.ng reports.

Omewa joined Nottingham Forest from Danish club Fortuna Hjørring in January, contributing three goals in ten league appearances in the second half of the campaign to help them finish seventh in the table.

Now, she has made a swift switch to Sweden, where she will play in the Damallsvenskan.

Speaking after her move, Omewa expressed her happiness and promised to give the fans joy.

”Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents. I feel it is the right place for me,” the Super Falcons star said.

”I want to contribute with ‘joy’, just like my name. I mainly developed my ability to score goals, especially positional play in the penalty area. I worked a lot on mastering how to be as efficient as possible inside the box,” she added.

With her club future sorted, Joy Omewa will now turn her attention to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

She is one of Justine Madugu’s 25 players for the competition, which kicks off on July 25. It is her debut tournament with the Super Falcons, and she will be looking to make an impression.

There is a plethora of strikers in the Super Falcons setup, so Madugu has his job cut out for him. If Omewa gets the opportunity to lead the line, she has to prove beyond all doubt that she deserves the call. If not, she risks being displaced.

A semifinal finish at least is Nigeria’s target, as only that will guarantee them a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Omewa will be hoping to have a productive outing with the Super Falcons before heading to her new club.
