The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has made mockery of the lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, over his membership withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress, APC, after being denied the party’s ticket for re-election.
Ajagunla had during the Senate’s plenary session on Friday presented his membership withdrawal letter.
While announcing the receival of the letter to the red chamber, Akpabio described Fadeyi’s resignation from the APC as a resignation from politics.
‘As you are packing your things, an announcement just came from the minority leader.
‘This one is a letter of resignation from the All Progressives Congress’s Senator, Olubiyi Fadeyi. He said he is going to resign from politics totally.’ He said.
Akpabio proceeded to read the letter before the lawmakers.
‘I write to formally tender my resignation from the APC, effective today. This decision was not taken lightly.
‘I joined the APC to support Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, in his ancestral home that falls in my Senatorial district, Osun Central.
‘Having got assurances and agreement reached by Mr. President to give me sole ticket to run for Senatorial seat under APC…’ The Senate President paused reading to air his objection against Fadeyi’s claim that Tinubu hailed from Osun state.
‘He is lamenting o. I disagree with him when he said Mr. President’s ancestral home.
‘Mr. President is a city boy from Lagos and he remains so and that is why we picked him to be our President.’ Akpabio said before proceeding with the letter.
Meanwhile, Fadeyi, in the letter, cited alleged betrayal of trust within the Osun State Chapter of the APC as reason behind his decision to withdraw his membership.
‘Regrettably, recent development from the leadership of the APC in Osun state has created serious trust issues within the party, making my continued membership with the party unbearable.
‘I wish to state that I remain 100 percent committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and supportive of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
‘My decision is not in opposition to the President, his administration, or vision for Nigeria. I believe Mr. President means well for the country.
‘Rather, it is informed by my conviction that certain democratic principles in my state, Osun state, have made me to lose trust and respect for the agreement earlier agreed to.
‘Most importantly, I owe a duty to the good people of Osun Central Senatorial District whose mandate I hold in trust in obedience to the wishes and aspirations of my constituency and in order to protect their mandate. I resolve to take this very difficult decision.’ Akpabio read further.
While expressing his gratitude to the national leadership of the APC, Fadeyi announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
‘I thank the leadership and members of the APC at the national level for the opportunity to serve. I wish the party well in its future endeavours.
‘I am now very proud to inform you that I am joining the Peoples Democratic Party.’ Akpabio concluded the letter
The Senate President further trolled Fadeyi as he said the lawmaker failed to indicate which of the PDP faction he defected to.
Recall that the PDP factions comprised of the faction backed by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Tanimu Turaki-led faction.
‘He didn’t indicate the faction.
‘I wish Distinguished Senator Olubiyi well in his new endeavour but I also hope he did not joining Senator Ningi to disturb us in the Senate.’ Akpabio added.
