According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has expressed confidence that the re-emergence of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general elections has significantly strengthened the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain power.
He described the development as an important step ahead of the 2027 general elections and said it would boost the party’s electoral prospects.
Ndume made the remarks after paying a visit to Vice President Shettima at his residence, where he congratulated him on his emergence as the APC’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The meeting provided the senator with the opportunity to personally convey his congratulations and commend the Vice President on the renewed confidence reposed in him by President Tinubu and the leadership of the ruling party.
He noted that the visit was intended to celebrate the announcement and acknowledge what he described as a significant political development for the APC.
The Borno South lawmaker stated that President Tinubu’s decision to retain Shettima as his running mate was a clear indication of the trust and confidence the President has in the Vice President’s leadership qualities.
He explained that the choice reflected recognition of Shettima’s loyalty, dedication and commitment to the administration since assuming office.
According to Ndume, the decision also underscores the President’s belief that continuity in leadership would be beneficial to the party as it prepares for another electoral contest in 2027.
Ndume further maintained that Shettima’s continued place on the presidential ticket would reinforce the APC’s campaign efforts and enhance its ability to mobilise support across different parts of the country.
He said the Vice President has remained committed to the administration and has continued to play an important role in advancing the policies and programmes of the Federal Government.
The senator stressed that retaining Shettima on the ticket would contribute to strengthening the party’s position as preparations for the next general election gather momentum.
The senator also described the decision as a strategic one, noting that it demonstrates stability within the APC and confidence in the existing leadership arrangement.
He said the renewed Tinubu-Shettima ticket would provide the ruling party with an opportunity to build on its current structure as it seeks another mandate from Nigerians in 2027.
Ndume added that the announcement had further reinforced optimism among party members regarding the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming election.
He said, “I appreciate President Bola Tinubu for once again choosing Kashim Shettima as his running mate. It is a wise and strategic decision that reflects confidence in his leadership and will further strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.”
