Former Labour Party chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has opened up about his previous support for Peter Obi, saying his political advocacy was motivated by a sincere belief in Obi’s leadership potential before his views later changed.
Speaking during an interview reported by Channels Television on Friday, July 10, 2026, Okonkwo explained that his political decisions have always been guided by what he believes is best for Nigeria rather than by personal interests or disagreements.
Recalling his earlier position, Okonkwo said, “To be honest, even when I was agitating for political change, Peter Obi was in my mind.” He noted that at the time, he genuinely wanted Obi to succeed and believed he could play a significant role in Nigeria’s political future.
