THE Center for the Advancement and Protection of the Rights of Vulnerable People (CAPRIGHTS-VP) has strengthened partnerships with faith-based organisations to reduce exploitative child domestic work in Lagos State.
The organisation in a statement on Thursday said the programme held from May to June 2026.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the initiative is supported by the Freedom Fund with funding from the United States Department of State, targeting faith-based organisations across Alimosho Local Government.
The outreach was facilitated by Mrs Agatha Chinedu, Security and Protection Officer; Mrs Vivian Emesowum, the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning officer, and Mrs Mercy Oni, Project Coordinator, alongside other CAPRIGHTS-VP project staff.
Oni, who spoke on behalf of CAPRIGHTS-VP, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to collaborative action in protecting children through partnerships with faith-based organisations, government institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders.
According to her, protecting children from exploitation is a shared responsibility that should be shouldered by all.
“Faith-based organisations are uniquely positioned to influence families, promote positive values, and encourage communities to take action against child abuse.
“Through these partnerships, we are strengthening local systems that protect children and contribute to ending exploitative child domestic work in Lagos State,” she said.
It added that sensitisation outreaches were conducted at St. Rita Catholic Church, Akesan, The Redeemed Christian Church of God and Living Faith Church to promote child protection and community responsibility.
It said religious leaders, congregants, children’s ministry coordinators and members of children’s departments were mobilised to prevent exploitation, encourage early reporting of abuse and strengthen child protection practices within communities.
Participants discussed the realities, warning signs and harmful consequences of exploitative child domestic work while promoting safe, supportive and nurturing environments where children are respected, protected and allowed to thrive.
Interactive presentations, practical examples and question-and-answer sessions enabled participants to gain practical knowledge on identifying, preventing and responding to cases of child abuse, neglect and exploitation.
CAPRIGHTS-VP also organised dedicated sessions for children’s ministries, delivering age-appropriate child protection messages to help children recognise unsafe situations, understand their rights and confidently report abuse or exploitation.
Children’s ministry coordinators received guidance on responding appropriately to child protection concerns and supporting affected children while strengthening safeguarding measures within churches and faith-based organisations across Alimosho.
The organisation distributed Information, Education and Communication materials to faith leaders and congregants, while introducing reporting and referral mechanisms, including the toll-free line 0800 800 8001 and the TALKAM App.
