After months of war and rising tensions, Donald Trump has said that the United States is close to reaching a major agreement with Iran. Speaking at the White House, Trump claimed that a “great settlement” has already been made and only final paperwork is left before the deal is officially signed.

He told reporters that the agreement could be finalised within the next few days. According to Trump, discussions with Tehran have progressed quickly, especially after he decided to step back from planned military action. This has raised fresh hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough after months of conflict.

Could the US-Iran deal be signed this weekend?

Trump said that a formal signing ceremony could take place in Europe as early as this weekend. While he may not attend personally, Vice President JD Vance is expected to represent the United States.

He also linked the deal to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. If reopened, it could ease pressure on international oil prices and stabilise energy markets.

Has Iran actually agreed to the deal?

However, Iran has pushed back on Trump’s claims. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that no final agreement has been reached yet. He admitted that parts of the deal have been discussed but accused the US of making “excessive demands” during negotiations.

Baghaei also made it clear that Iran will not compromise on its “red lines” or accept pressure from Washington.

Will Iran accept nuclear restrictions?

Trump said a key part of the deal is Iran’s commitment to never develop nuclear weapons. He claimed that Iran has agreed to this condition, calling it a “very big thing” for global security.

For years, Iran has denied trying to build nuclear weapons, saying its nuclear programme is only for peaceful purposes.

Trump also claimed that Iran’s top leadership has approved the deal. He added that several countries in West Asia support the agreement and believe it could bring stability to the region.
