The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has led tributes to retiring Deputy Comptroller-General Musa Omale, describing him as an intellectually inclined officer whose contributions have left lasting footprints in the Nigeria Customs Service.
Speaking during a retirement ceremony held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja, Adeniyi said officers are often remembered by the impact they make while in service.
“When we are in service, we leave imprints and footprints because we never know how people will make reference to them later,” the CGC said.
He noted that retirement celebrations within the Service are designed to honour officers for their contributions while preparing them for life after active duty.
Adeniyi advised Omale to exercise caution in future business ventures and investments, adding that he should focus on areas where he possesses adequate knowledge and understanding.
Also speaking, Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi recalled meeting Omale 35 years ago in Port Harcourt and described him as a dependable colleague.
“You have remained yourself all through. You are reliable and dependable, and your word is your bond,” Bomodi said.
The Director of Legal Services, Smart Akande, praised the retired officer’s diligence and professionalism, adding, “I will not be surprised if he becomes a professor after retirement.”
Other senior officers, including Assistant Comptroller-General Nafiu Isiaku, commended Omale’s dedication to learning, mentorship and professional excellence.
In his remarks, Omale expressed gratitude to the Customs leadership and his colleagues for the honour accorded him.
He pledged to remain available to support the Service and commended Adeniyi for his listening approach to leadership.
