Two purported members of the Accord Party abducted in Ilesa, Osun State, has regained their freedom.
NPO Reported that suspected political thugs had on Thursday evening carried out an attack at Ilesa, opening fire in the air.
Video of the incident showed the thugs who arrived in a campaign vehicle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) forcing a man into the trunk of the vehicle with one of the armed thugs opening fire in the air.
The suspected thugs reportedly shot one of the victims twice before abducting.
The disturbing video of the abdction intensified concern over the spate of violence in the state ahesd of the August Governorship Election.
When contacted by our correspondent on Thursday, the Osun Police Command disclosed that the victims are in their custody and are under interrogation.
The command however failed to disclose how the vicitms arrived at their custody and whether the suspected abductors were arrested.
They were eventually freed on Friday
A Facebook user, Oluwatimilehin Ajumobi, announced the release with a video showing one of the victims being received by visibly excited friends and families.
Ajumobi, in the post, alleged that the victims were dropped at the police station by the abductors with no arrest made.
“Suspected APC thugs who kidnapped two Accord Party members in Ilesa last night as seen in a trending video later dropped them off at a police station after realizing that a viral video had exposed them.
“Instead of arresting the armed thugs and taking their statements after they brought the victims to the station, the DPO left the thugs and immediately transferred the victims to the Osun State Police Command, where the victims were detained.” He wrote.
Meanwhile, the victims allegedly recounted how the undisclosed political godfathers of the kidnappers intended to change the narrative of their abduction.
“According to the victims, the abductors or some of their political godfathers attempted to change the narrative by claiming that the victims had a case with the Anti-Cultism Section.
“However, the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Cultism Section was invited and asked, in the presence of the victims, whether he knew them or whether any complaint had been lodged against them.
“However, the officer stated that he neither knew the victims nor had any complaint been lodged against them.” Ajumobi wrote.
The Facebook user claimed that the victims mentioned the names of their armed abductors.
He called out the Osun State Commissioner, Ibrahum Gotan, over failure arrest the armed civilians seen in the viral video.
