The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has asserted that his country’s military has “largely ended” the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
He made this known on Friday while highlighting his government’s security operations and efforts to combat terrorism across different regions at an event held in the US capital, Washington, DC.
According to the 80-year-old President, military strikes by the US in areas affected by insurgency and violent extremist activities in Nigeria played a major role in stopping attacks allegedly targeted at Christian communities.

Trump said, “As you know, we recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations.”
He went on to describe the situation in the most populous African country before the strikes as severe, noting that a lot of Christians had been “butchered” in brutal attacks.
“They have a great Christian population. They were being butchered… butchered. Thousands and thousands of people were being killed—children, women, old people—just being slaughtered, hacked to death,” the Republican President added.
