Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Pastor Adeboye lamented the continued escalation of insecurity across the country, despite widespread awareness of those allegedly responsible for sponsoring criminal activities.
According to the revered cleric, the security crisis has deteriorated to the point where many Nigerians are questioning God’s intervention amid the persistent violence.
“It’s so bad, far worse, that people are asking, ‘Where is your God?’ That’s how bad things are,” Adeboye said.
He noted that the wave of terrorism, kidnappings and other violent crimes, once largely associated with northern Nigeria, had now spread to the southern part of the country.
“The terrorism, kidnappings and other bad things that used to happen in the north are now happening right near my home. They have travelled all the way to the southern part,” he stated.
Adeboye also alleged that those sponsoring insecurity in the country are widely known but continue to move about freely without facing any consequences.
“And, of course, the sponsors are all well-known, and they are still moving around without any restrictions,” he added.
The RCCG leader disclosed that he had personally discussed the country’s security challenges with President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the RCCG.
According to him, he advised the President to issue a firm directive to Nigeria’s military leadership, giving them a 90-day deadline to decisively tackle terrorism and banditry.
“I told him to give orders to the military officers in the armed forces and set a 90-day deadline. Wipe out this rubbish or resign. Then take care of the supporters and the sponsors,” he said.
Adeboye further alleged that influential individuals, including politicians and businessmen, were behind the financing of terrorist and bandit groups operating across the country.
He stressed that any meaningful effort to end insecurity must go beyond confronting armed groups and instead focus on dismantling the financial networks sustaining their operations.
“Some of them are businessmen. Some of them are politicians. Go after them. If you don’t take action against those providing weapons and bullets, and since they often ride motorcycles when they move around, the problem will keep happening if we don’t target the people funding it,” he said.
