Popular Nigerian skit-maker and content creator, Abdulgafar Ahmad, popularly known as Cute Abiola, has publicly apologised to former First Lady Patience Jonathan over the criticism and ridicule she faced after shedding tears on national television during the wave of kidnappings and insecurity under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
In a message shared on social media, Cute Abiola acknowledged that many Nigerians may have misjudged the former First Lady’s emotional reaction at the time, noting that recent security challenges across the country have provided a new perspective on her concerns.
According to him, Patience Jonathan’s tears reflected genuine compassion for victims of kidnapping and violence, rather than weakness as many had perceived.
“Mummy! I just want to say we are sorry,” he wrote.
He stated that when the former First Lady addressed the nation years ago, she expressed deep concern over the bloodshed, insecurity, and abduction of innocent children, adding that she understood the pain being experienced by affected families.
Cute Abiola said the continued rise in kidnapping and insecurity across parts of Nigeria has made many people realise that her emotional appeal was driven by empathy and concern for citizens.
“Today, as kidnapping and insecurity continue to affect innocent Nigerians, many now realize that your tears were not weakness; they were humanity,” he said.
The comedian further thanked Patience Jonathan for speaking out during the difficult period and for showing concern for victims and their families.
He also offered prayers for families affected by insecurity, expressing hope that peace and stability would return to the country.
