ORGANISERS of the Black African History Global Iconic Awards (BAHGIA) Global Summit and Awards 2026 have said the event will support outstanding students and emerging entrepreneurs with grants, mentorship and funding to promote innovation and youth empowerment across Africa.

The organisers disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the initiative, a three-day summit scheduled for July 3 to July 5 in Lagos, is expected to provide opportunities for young Africans seeking support to advance their education, research, leadership ambitions and business ideas.

It said  the programme would offer development grants for exceptional students across the continent, with a focus on promoting academic excellence, innovation and leadership development.

The statement said beneficiaries would also have access to mentorship and capacity-building opportunities designed to help young people translate ideas into impactful projects.

“The initiative will provide development grants and support programmes  for outstanding students across Africa.

“Beyond education, the platform is also targeting young entrepreneurs through startup support initiatives that include seed funding opportunities, business mentorship, incubation support and exposure to investors.”

It said participating startups would have the opportunity to showcase their ideas before development partners, investors and business leaders expected at the summit.

It described the programme as part of a broader vision to transform BAHGIA from a recognition platform into a vehicle for sustainable socio-economic development across the continent and the global African diaspora.

The summit is expected to attract more than 400 participants, including governors, legislators, diplomats, traditional rulers, development partners, investors, academics, innovators, entrepreneurs, youth leaders and media executives.

According to the statement, the gathering will serve as a platform to promote African unity, celebrate excellence, encourage innovation, strengthen diaspora engagement and foster investment partnerships.

A major highlight of the event will be the awards, which will honour individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to leadership, governance, business and media.

Individuals who have contributed immensely to entertainment, culture, education, innovation, humanitarian service and African development will also be honoured.

“The summit reflects growing efforts to create platforms that not only celebrate achievement but also provide practical support for the next generation of African leaders and innovators. (NAN)
