THE Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, has advised residents in the capital territory to adhere strictly to all fire safety rules as Muslims commemorate the Eid-El-Kabir festival.
The FFS Spokesperson, Barnabas Anyam, gave the advice in an interview the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Wednesday.
Anyam quoted the command’s Controller, Muhammed Anas, as urging residents not to hesitate in contacting the command during emergencies by dialing; 08032003557.
According to Anas, the service, asides ensuring fire safety, also provides other emergency services such as drowning rescue services, building collapse rescue, among others.
The controller said that it was imperative for residents to be proactive in ensuring safety within their environment by purchasing fire extinguishers, fire blankets, as well as being extremely cautious when handling cooking gases.
He noted that the festive season attracted a lot of kitchen and cooking activities which required the use of gas or kerosene, hence the need to apply all safety measures.
He also advised parents not to be carried away by the festivity by allowing children handle inflammable materials.
Anas further directed all Station Commanders to ensure that all firefighters in their jurisdictions remained available and 100 per cent ready to tackle any fire emergencies across the territory.
He reiterated that all firefighting equipment were in perfect condition to address emergencies, hence, there was no room for excuse or incompetence from officers.
He described personnel of the service as essential workers, and charged them to be on “red alert”, as no personnel was permitted to go for the holiday.
He wished all Muslim Faithful a glamourous celebration, and urged them to use the season to pray for country.(NAN)
