Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, lamented over government’s alleged inaction and silence over the kidnapped students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Falz, in a video post shared on his Instagram handle on Wednesday in commemoration of the annual Children’s Day celebration, declared the 2026 edition miserable on account of the abducted students and pupils who are still in kidnappers’ custody.
Recall that suspected terrorists’ group had on the 15th of May carried out multiple attacks on three schools within Oriire LGA which included Ahoro-Esinele Community Secondary School, Yaota Baptist Nursery School, and LA Nursery and Primary school.
While two people, a teacher and a motorcyclist, were killed during the attack, another teacher, Micheal Oloyede, was tragically beheaded at the terrorist’s hideout last week.
With the other captives yet to regain their freedom, Falz in the video decried the delay in the rescue of the students and their teachers who have repeatedly tortured by the terrorists.
“Today is children’s day but there is absolutely nothing happy about the day. In fact, it is completely miserable. Over 40 people were kidnapped in Oyo state, most of them children- Nursery and Primary school children. Just so you understand how young these kids are.
“They can’t be with their families. Their families still do not know where they are. The last image their families have of them are of them being tortured, being flogged.
“These guys have recorded themselves torturing these children.
“They recorded themselves beheading a teacher and the government hasn’t done anything. As usual, they will make announcement that they are making efforts.’ Falz said.
The singer expressed his displeasure with ongoing political campaign activities amid the growing concern over the well-being of the kidnapped students.
“The most infuriating thing about these entire things is that these guys are campaigning. These guys are campaigning to be re-elected. To be re-elected on what basis?
“To come back so that more people can be killed? And there are people among us, supposedly educated, supposedly enlightened that are openly supporting them.
“I can’t pretend to have all the answers, but I know for sure that keeping quiet, carrying on business like nothing is happening is definitely not the answer.” He said.
