The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has removed its Bauchi State Chairman, Abdulrahman Yusuf Muazu, with immediate effect following rising tension within the party structure in the state.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the decision came after disagreements within the party after Senator Shehu Buba Umar joined the Peoples Redemption Party and was later presented as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election. The process was said to have been handled under the supervision of the now-removed chairman.
The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat by Ahmed Mohammed Bello, who serves as Secretary of Majidadi A Ward.
Bello said the removal followed the party’s constitution and the report of a disciplinary committee submitted on May 11, 2026. He stated that the committee found Muazu guilty of disobedience and failure to follow lawful instructions from the party’s leadership.
He also said Muazu was accused of handing over some of his official duties to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, which the committee described as a violation of party rules and a cause of internal disagreement.
The party stated that Muazu has lost the right to speak or act for the party, including the use of its name, symbols, and official platforms.
The Peoples Redemption Party also announced that its State Youth Leader, Tijjani Abubakar Aliyu, will now serve as acting chairman in Bauchi State until further notice.
Aliyu said he would work to stabilise the party and restore order in the state chapter. He also said the party would not accept candidates without wide consultation with members, especially those who joined from other political parties.
He added that consultations would begin soon to confirm the party’s official candidates ahead of future elections.
