AS Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the Catholic Diocese of Oyo has urged Nigerians never to give up in the face of challenges confronting the nation.
The church made the call on Wednesday in its Eid-el-Kabir message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
The statement was signed by the Bishop, Oyo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo and the Director of Interreligious Dialogue, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ogundipe.
The Diocese said Nigerians must hold on to faith and unity in spite of the situation of the country.
“We join you in thanking God for this opportunity despite the challenges of this time.
“Eid el Kabir is a festival of great sacrifice to Allah, it must reflect in our loving sacrifice to one another, especially those who do not share our beliefs and language.
“The situation of our dear Nation is dark and gloomy, we sometimes point accusing fingers at each other, and the essence of our religious values are daily challenged by the activities of a few,” the diocese stated.
It cited the pain of kidnappers and bandits as still fresh in memory.
“While we pray for the safe release of those in captivity, we also pray for consolations for the bereaved and eternal rest for the dead.
“Beloved, we must be ready to combat all these forms of evils that threaten our identities and collective efforts together as believers,” it stated.
The Diocese also urged continuous prayer for governments at all levels.
“We thank the Government of Oyo State for their efforts and we encourage them to do more,” the diocese stated.
The Diocese further pledged prayers for peace and progress in Oyo and Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2027.
“As always, we are open to activities and initiatives of mutual enrichment and dialogue for peaceful coexistence with all.
“On behalf of the priests, religious and laity of Oyo Diocese, we wish you all a blessing-filled Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” it stated. (NAN)
