Teachers in Oyo State have started a protest over killing of their colleagues by gunmen.
This was seen a viral video posted on X on Monday.
Recall that the NPO Reported on Friday that suspected gunmen invaded a primary school in Ahoro-Esinele community, Oyo state, killing a teacher with yet-to-be confirmed number of students abducted.
The incident occurred at LA School and Community Grammar School in Oriire Local Government Area of the state
Reacting, the Oyo state government said efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the captives with the Commissioner of Information, Dotun Oyelade, disclosing that all entry and exit points leading to the National Park, where the bandits are suspected to be hiding, have been shut.
With the fresh murder of one of the teachers identified ans Oyedokun Micheal in a disturbing video shared on X on Monday, the government’s assurance was deemed insufficient as protesting teachers stormed the street.
In the video, the protesters were seen chanting “solidarity forever”, “free our students”, “free our colleagues”, “we are nation builders”.
Also contained in the placards carried by the protesting teachers were inscriptions demanding justice for the teachers and motorcyclist murdered during the attack.
Some of the inscriptions read “Their Deaths Demand Action”, “Say their Name Remember their Sacrifice, “Killed at their Duty Post”, and “Noble Teachers Gone Too Soon” amongst others.
