THE Kebbi Government has unveiled a plan to digitise its civil service to boost service delivery.
Gov. Nasir Idris disclosed this while declaring open a 10-day digital training for 2,000 civil servants at the ultra-modern state secretariat in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop is aimed at enhancing effective and efficient service delivery through digitisation.
The governor reminded the workers that the present administration belongs to them, hence the need to sustain their support and cooperation to it.
“Nobody is better than you as far as this administration is concerned. Some people said a labour leader, a teacher, cannot run the affairs of the state.
“With God Almighty and with your support, today, a teacher is steering the affairs of this administration,” he said
Speaking on the training, Gov. Idris said the essence was to give workers a sense of belonging and ensure a conducive atmosphere to work efficiently and effectively.
The governor promised to look into the welfare of workers through a scheme that would enhance their living standards, adding that such schemes comprised car, motorcycle and housing loans among others.
Speaking on his achievements, Gov. Idris said his administration had renovated, reconstructed and furnished over 2,000 schools, rehabilitated and equipped 22 hospitals, renovated 192 primary healthcare centres, abolished casualisation and absorbed all casual workers, and recruited 5,244 workers across sectors.
He also noted with satisfaction that the present administration was not owing anybody salary, pension, gratuity, or death benefit, assuring that the state was up to date in payment of all entitlements.
The governor added that Kebbi government had implemented the new minimum wage of N75,000, “which is above the federal government’s N70,000.”
He urged the civil servants to continue supporting government policies and programmes for better performance.
Also speaking, the State Head of Service, Alhaji Malami Shekare, thanked the governor for providing a conducive working environment and for prioritising the training and retraining of civil servants.
He assured the governor of the readiness of civil servants to support and cooperate with his administration to succeed.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Mohammad-Sakaba, commended the governor for initiating the training.
He said the e-governance programme would equip civil servants with digital skills for modern public administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that about 2,000 junior and middle cadre workers were expected to participate and benefit from the training.
The event featured presentation of an award of “Digital Governor” to Gov. Idris by the Commissioner, Innovation and Digital Economy. (NAN)
