Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over possible offences arising from his political engagements.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Elliot tendered the apology on Friday during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, saying any misunderstanding between them was not intentional.
The apology comes amid previous tensions linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis.
Gbajabiamila had earlier said President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging Elliot’s involvement in the Assembly speakership tussle, a claim he denied at the time.
Speaking on the programme, Elliot said he learnt politics under Gbajabiamila, whom he described as his “egbon.”
“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.
Elliot said political relationships could be affected by human errors and misunderstandings.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” he said.
He also apologised to the matriarch of Surulere.
“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he added.
Despite the apology, Elliot said he remained committed to strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) and delivering dividends of democracy to his constituents.
“But I will keep keeping the party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he said.
The Lagos Assembly crisis had triggered internal disputes within the APC before it was resolved through high-level intervention.
