Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former chief of staff to All Progressives Congress National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, has quit the ruling party for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa constituency in Kano State, defected to the opposition party barely a week after losing his return ticket when a consensus arrangement favored another candidate.
Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to NDC chieftain and leader of the Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, confirmed the defection Monday.
He said the defection took place at Kwankwaso’s Kano Miller Road residence.
He said: “Our leader has today accepted the former chief of staff to the APC national chairman, Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gidan Ruwa), to the NDC Kwankwasiyya.”
Reacting to the news of Dawaki’s defection, Bashir Ahmad, a former social media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, called it a major loss.
He posted on his X account in Hausa: “Maganar gaskiya mun yi babban rashi a APC,” which means, “The truth is that we have suffered a major loss in APC.”
