Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other Africa Democratic Congress candidates, including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, are competing for the party’s presidential ticket as primaries are underway nationwide.
The primary election is being held simultaneously in 8,809 polling units across the federation ahead of the main election in January 2027.

In Abia State, the election was peaceful at the Ania Ward in Ohafia Local Government Area, with Atiku sweeping all the votes in the polling unit.
In Adamawa, Atiku voted at the Ajiya Ward in Jimeta, Yola, describing the election as “democracy at work.”
In Yobe, at the Bolewa Ward, Atiku was said to have won the primary with 740 votes. Amaechi received 15 votes, while Hayatu-Deen got 2. Counting in the polling unit was however marred by inflated numbers.
In Rivers, a large crowd of party faithful queued behind Amaechi, while Atiku received few votes at the polling units.
