THE Kano State Police Command has foiled a violent thuggery attack and restored normalcy following a clash between suspected rival hoodlum groups in Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano metropolis.
The rival hoodlum groups are popularly known as “Yan Daba” in Kano.
This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Tuesday in Kano.
Kiyawa said the incident occurred on April 27 at about 1:20p.m. when the police received a distress call that suspected thugs had mobilised for a clash.
He said patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene, where officers encountered a violent confrontation.
The PPRO revealed that an ambulance was destroyed during the encounter, while the hoodlums attempted to attack other locations.
Kiyawa said the police confronted the suspects, who later regrouped and attacked the officers with dangerous weapons and stones.
He added that the operatives repelled the assault.
“The suspects subsequently fled to the Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property.
“Reinforcement teams were swiftly mobilised, dispersing the thugs and arresting six suspects,” he said.
He added that calm had since been restored to the affected areas.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, commended the gallantry, restraint and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation.
He said their swift response prevented a further breakdown of law and order and loss of property.
The CP warned that the command would not tolerate any form of thuggery or disturbance of public peace, urging parents and guardians to caution their wards.
He said investigations were ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and identify sponsors of the clash, while calling on residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies. NAN
