The Police Command in Cross River has directed deployment of personnel and operational assets to approved centres in the state for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
In a statement on Thursday in Calabar by the Command’s Spokesman, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Rashid Afegbua, said that the police would ensure safety of students and officials for the examination.
Afegbua said that the proactive measure was in-line with the directive of the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police.
He also said that the measure was imed at ensuring a safe, secured, and conducive environment for candidates, examination officials, and other stakeholders throughout the examination period.
“Deployed operatives have been tasked to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, courteousness and firmness in the discharge of their duties.
“They are to decisively address any cases of examination malpractice, disorderly conduct or security breaches.
“They are also to collaborate closely with other security agencies to ensure effective coverage of examination centres, surrounding areas and access routes,” he said.
The commissioner urged candidates, parents, guardians, and the general public to cooperate fully with security personnel and strictly adhere to all examination guidelines to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free exercise.
“The command reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and encourages residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation,” he added.
It would be recalled that JAMB had scheduled its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) holding nationwide for 10 days, between April 16 and April 25.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
