Lagos, May 16, 2026 (NAN) A Councillor, Mr Yusuf Oni, has urged contestants, who will win APC House of Representatives primary election, to remain connected to their constituencies and prioritise development, if elected into power.

Oni, who represents Apena Ward in the Oshodi/Isolo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, made the call at the APC House of Representatives primary election in the ward, on Saturday.

According to him, those who will be eventually elected into power should remain connected to the people they sought to represent.

“Elected leaders must not abandon their communities after securing office, and they are warned against turning Abuja into their base, while neglecting constituents at home,” he said.

He described as condemnable, a situation where a House of Representatives member would be rarely seen in his constituency throughout his four-year tenure.

Oni said that such a situation would make his constituency members to feel ignored and disconnected from governance.

He appealed to the contestants to remain accessible, engage regularly with their constituency members and deliver visible impact across communities, if elected into power.

The councillor said that voters in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency would not tolerate broken promises and would not hesitate to vote out leaders not meeting their expectations. (NAN)
