Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has said he will not withdraw from the race for any contender ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primaries.
Speaking during an interview with Vanguard, Hayatu-Deen confirmed that no rival aspirant has approached him to step down from the race. He maintained that he would not withdraw for anyone, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
He said, “They have not asked me to step down. And if anyone does, I will not step down for anybody. However, once the party makes its final decision through a credible process, I will fully support whoever emerges as the candidate.”
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the ADC aspirant said he joined the presidential race because Nigeria needs capable leadership that can tackle the country’s worsening economic and security problems.
He stated that every qualified Nigerian has the constitutional right to seek public office and said he entered the contest after carefully studying the condition of the country and the direction it is heading.
According to him, Nigeria’s biggest problems are mainly social and economic, including rising inflation, unemployment, insecurity, poor healthcare and a struggling education system. He said the country has continued to witness hardship for almost two decades despite its enormous resources.
He said: “I believe Nigeria’s problems are largely bread-and-butter issues, social and economic in nature. They require someone with deep knowledge and understanding of the economic and social history of this country, and someone capable of providing practical solutions.”
