Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has said he will remain loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) even if asked to step aside for another candidate.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he made this known during an interview on TVC, where he spoke about calls from some individuals urging him to leave his current party and join another.

According to him, many people have reached out, suggesting he defect, but he dismissed the idea, saying he was brought into politics through his party’s support and feels committed to it.

He added that if the party eventually decides he should step down and support another candidate, he would abide by the decision and back whoever is chosen.

Elliott maintained that his loyalty remains with the party that gave him the platform to serve.

He said: “So Many People have called and said, ‘Hey, go to another party.’ I said, ‘Go to another party? How? Daddy picked me from nowhere. If the party says, ‘Desmond, you have done well, go and sit down,’ I will sit down and support whoever the party picks.”

In other news, Elliot has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over possible offences arising from his political engagements.

He tendered the apology on Friday during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, saying any misunderstanding between them was not intentional.

The apology comes amid previous tensions linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis.
