The Nigerian military has constituted a court-martial to try serving personnel allegedly implicated in a coup plot, as the Federal Government moves to prosecute civilians and retired officers linked to the same case.
Reliable sources confirmed to Punch that the military panel would be constituted on Wednesday to commence proceedings against the affected officers.
Those reportedly detained and to face trial include Brig Gen M. A. Sadiq, Col M. A. Maaji, Lt Col S. Bappah, Lt Col A. A. Hayatu, Lt Col P. Dangnap, Lt Col M. Almakura, Maj A. J. Ibrahim, Maj M. M. Jiddah, Maj M. A. Usman, Maj D. Yusuf, Capt I. Bello, Capt A. A. Yusuf, Lt S. S. Felix, Lt Cdr D. B. Abdullahi, Sqn Ldr S. B. Adamu and Maj I. Dauda.
Sources disclosed that the officers had been in detention over their alleged roles in the unfolding case.
It was further gathered that the detained officers have now been granted access to legal representation for the first time since their arrest.
FG To Arraign Six Suspects In Abuja
The development comes as the Federal Government is set to arraign six individuals before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged coup plot against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Those to be arraigned include retired Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.
Also listed in the charge, but said to be at large, is former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.
The suspects are expected to appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
