Former Finance Minister Wale Edun has claimed that inflation in Nigeria dropped from 35 percent to 15 percent during his time in office, as he confirmed his commitment to continue serving the country after his removal.
He made this known in a public statement released shortly after his exit from the Ministry of Finance.
Edun, in the statement, thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving him the chance to serve in different roles since the start of the administration in May 2023.
He said he first worked as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, then as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, before becoming Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Edun said, “I wish to thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for the opportunity to serve our country from the outset of his administration in May 2023.”

He explained that he took office at a time when Nigeria faced serious economic problems.
He said the government worked together to carry out key reforms that helped to improve the economy.
In his words, these efforts led to growth rising from 2 percent to over 4 percent, while inflation dropped from 35% to 15%.
He said, “Under his leadership, we have worked collectively across government to advance critical reforms that stabilised the macroeconomic environment . . .
Key results of these efforts include: growth improving from a rate of 2% to over 4%, and inflation falling from 35% to 15%.”
He also said the reforms helped to build public trust, improve investor confidence, and support better coordination across government agencies.
Edun claimed that these steps created a base for long-term and inclusive growth.
He praised members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and partners in both the public and private sectors for their role in the process.
He noted that many professionals also played pivotal roles in supporting the country’s economic changes.
Reflecting on his time in office, Edun said he was proud about what the team achieved.
He maintained that economic reform is a continuous task and should not stop with any single administration.
He said, “The work of economic reform is, by its nature, a continuous process; I remain optimistic about Nigeria’s trajectory.”
Edun wished his successor well and expressed hope that the government would continue efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians.
He stated clearly that he remains committed to national service and will continue to support Tinubu.
Edun declared, “I remain fully committed to the service of our country and supporting Mr. President.”
