UI Gets New Vice Chancellor Olapegba

The University of Ibadan has gotten a new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Olapegba, who is now set to replace the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale.

Olapegba, who currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, reportedly emerged as the new Vice Chancellor following the conclusion of the interview exercise on Wednesday.

While no official statement confirming the development has been issued by the university management, Olapegba was among the five candidates interviewed for the appointment.

According to reports, six applicants were initially screened, comprising five internal candidates from the University of Ibadan and one external candidate.

However, one of the applicants was reportedly found not qualified during the screening exercise, leaving five candidates for the interview stage.

Among those interviewed alongside Olapegba are Prof. Abideen Aderinto; Prof. Adebola Ekanola, who served as interim Vice Chancellor before the election of the 13th VC; and Prof. Yinka Omigbodun, a former Provost, College of Medicine, UI.

The identity of the fifth candidate could however not be independently confirmed.
