The death of Abdulrahman Abdullahi Mohammed, a final-year Computer Science student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has stirred angry reactions from colleagues, who allege the hospital has a history of negligence.
Mohammed, the son of the school’s former Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Administration and a professor of Administration and Development Studies, Professor Abdullahi Mohammed, is reported to have died on Monday, July 20, at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, during an orthopedic surgical intervention. FMC Keffi has not yet issued an official statement on the circumstances of his death.
His death has heightened demand for reforms as several students have taken to social media to recount their experiences with the hospital’s services.
One social media user, @abdoullaheegambour, wrote about what he described as his experience at the hospital during an admission in 2024:
“Very bad hospital. I was admitted there in the year of 2024. No bed. They kept me in a wheelchair for hours instead of giving me better treatment. No doctor came over until I fell down from the wheelchair. I ended up with a partial stroke. I can’t walk normally now. I can’t use my left hand. This is almost two years.”

Several other social media users also made similar allegations of unprofessionalism and inadequate facilities at the medical centre.
Another user, @Zakaria Zamola, alleged the clinic, instead of saving lives, has become “a dead zone.” He wrote: “Federal Ministry of Health and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, please come to our aid. We are dying in silence and our cries are not being heard. The negligence and unprofessional conduct at Federal Medical Centre, Keffi has become unbearable. FMC Keffi, a place meant to save lives, has now become a dead zone and a house of tears.”
Others expressed nostalgia for what they described as the hospital’s former standard of care, and called on the Federal Ministry of Health to renovate and rehabilitate the centre.
