At least two people have been killed with several others injured in suspected cult clash at Idi-Seke area of Osogbo, Osun state capital city.
The clash reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday following a violent confrontation between suspected rival cult groups.
Residents and business owners scampered for safety as sporadic gunshots rented the air, creating panic across the area.
A video recorded and shared on X showed one of the casualties lying lifeless with a ghastly head injury.
Some of the victims of the clash were rushed to the hospital with their clothes soaked with blood.
The clash also recorded widespread destruction of property as several vehicles parked within the vicinity were vandalised during the unrest.
Commercial activities in the area were temporarily disrupted as residents stayed indoors to avoid being caught in the violence.
According to reports, security operatives had been deployed to the area to restore normalcy and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, some netizens have accused the Accord Party carrying out the attack as one of the deceased victims identified as Adelodun Olalekan, AKA Lexy, was alleged to be a strong member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The allegation has further raised concern over political violence in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
