Influencer Simisanya, wife of popular videographer Femi Dapson, has advised singles to use the talking stage to ask practical questions that can reveal compatibility before committing to a relationship, rather than waiting until marriage plans begin.
Speaking on a recent episode of a podcast, Simisanya stressed that conversations before dating should go beyond romance and cover important issues such as genotype, personality, lifestyle, and values.
According to her, one of the first things people should find out is each other’s genotype to avoid future heartbreak, noting that people should ask about each other’s genotype status early on, so that if they eventually decide to marry after dating, they won’t end up scrambling after discovering they are not compatible.
She also encouraged people to ask about everyday habits that could affect a relationship, including domestic expectations, giving an example of asking whether a partner likes fresh food, since she personally doesn’t know how to cook and such a mismatch could affect compatibility.
Simisanya added that a person’s behaviour on social media can also reveal a lot about their character, saying it is important to know if a potential partner constantly engages in online fights or trolling, listing questions such as whether they frequently get into arguments online, whether they mistreat women, whether they are the type to always be commenting and fighting online, and whether they are generally a troll.
She further advised people to pay attention to how a potential partner treats others online, especially women, and to find out whether they are naturally generous or stingy before entering a relationship, citing examples such as asking whether they insult women who ask questions like what they bring to the table, and whether they tend to be stingy or generous, describing these as very important questions to raise.
According to Simisanya, asking these questions early helps both people understand whether they are truly compatible and can prevent unnecessary conflicts or disappointments later in the relationship.
