The Senate Committee on Police Affairs is joining others in commending the FCT Police Command and the Commissioner of Police in particular, CP Muhammad Sanusi. The Senate Committee’s commendation is coming on the heels of a quick rescue operation of a 14-year old girl snatched by kidnappers from the grandmother last Wednesday.

The FCT Police Command extricated the girl late Thursday night with no casualties for the Police. It is still unclear if that is the case for bandits and kidnappers involved in the kidnapping of the girl from Mpape area of the capital city.

A statement from the Committee credits the CP with securing the city even in the face of rising crime challenges. It singled out the rescue operation as worthy of commendation and appreciation of all those involved in carrying it out with that speed.

The Committee is renewing its assurance of moral and institutional support for the Police in combatting crime and insecurity. It saying any Police Command with the records of success of the FCT Command deserves such solidarity.

Commendations have been mounting for the FCT Police Command and the Commissioner of Police. Only yesterday (Thursday, July 8th, 2026), the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) for the FCT Command, Dr Rufus Ebegba, praised the FCT Commissioner of Police for intelligence-led operational efficiency which he said had enabled notable successes against criminal activities since the Commissioner took over as the 35th Commissioner of Police in the territory.

In late June 2026, President Bola Tinubu said Abuja had become safer due to disappearance of criminal hideouts. Although the president was speaking in praise of his government’s infrastructure provisioning efforts, he also implied praises for the FCT Police and its leadership.

As a sprawling capital city, Abuja has its own crime challenges typical of mega cities across the world. The concentration of government institutions, private establishments, diplomatic missions and numerous cultural activities makes high scores for the FCT Police an important news item.
