The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is increasingly preoccupied with attacking the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, instead of addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr., POMR claimed there was an unofficial directive within the APC encouraging party members and political appointees to focus on discrediting Obi and Kwankwaso rather than showcasing the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
The media office alleged that the recent criticisms directed at both opposition figures by senior APC members and government officials reflected what it described as a coordinated political strategy aimed at diminishing their growing influence ahead of future elections.
According to POMR, many public office holders now appear more interested in attacking opposition leaders to gain political favour than in delivering on their mandates to Nigerians.
The group argued that while political energy is being expended on criticisms of Obi and Kwankwaso, key national issues, including insecurity, the rising cost of living, and challenges in the education and healthcare sectors, continue to worsen.
POMR also expressed concern over food insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, alleging that governments controlled by the APC had not done enough to address the situation despite warnings of worsening hunger.
It maintained that using opposition figures as political targets would neither improve citizens’ living conditions nor resolve the country’s security challenges, adding that Nigerians were more concerned about governance and accountability than political attacks.
The media office urged public officials to prioritise service delivery and tangible development over political rhetoric, while calling on President Bola Tinubu to assess his appointees based on their performance in office rather than their criticisms of opposition politicians.
POMR reaffirmed Peter Obi’s commitment to what it described as the pursuit of a better Nigeria, insisting that political attacks would not distract from demands for accountability and improved governance.
