The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has summoned the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, for probe over his alleged involvement in the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
This is coming days after President Bola Tinubu called for investigation over the fake agency scandal by the commission.
In the wake of the summon, Gbajabiamila appeared before the ICPC on Monday.
His appearance was confirmed in a statement issued by his Principal Counsel, Mr Jiti Ogunye.
According to the lawyer, Gbajabiamila honoured the invitation and fully cooperated with investigators.
“My client, Femi Gbajabiamila, responded to the invitation of the ICPC and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the ‘PFIPC’ fake agency,” Ogunye said.
He added that the Chief of Staff gave his testimony, responded to questions and returned to his official duties after the session.
“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post.” He said.
Recall that Presidency had earlier disowned the PFIPC and its self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, describing it as a fake organisation with no legal or executive backing.
The Federal Government said the body was never established by law, presidential directive or any other official instrument.
Following the development, Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate the activities of the alleged agency and conclude the probe within 30 days.
Meanwhile, Adeyemi, who alleged paying N400 milliom bribe to Gbajabiamila, was arrested earlier in July over allegations of forgery and impersonation.
The Presidency said the investigation forms part of efforts to protect the integrity of government institutions and prevent fraudulent use of the Presidency name.
