Four individuals were hurt after a gunfight broke out as fans celebrated the World Cup tournament in Los Angeles (LA) on Sunday evening, says Metro report.
According to eyewitness reports, the gunfight took place at about 10:00 p.m. local time close to the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue, where many fans had gathered to celebrate following the Round of 16 fixture between Mexico and England.
The eyewitnesses, people at the site were having a good time as supporters were waving Mexican flags while people in vehicles honked in excitement. But everything went wrong suddenly as many gunshots sounded in the air, causing panic among people, who started running here and there.
Footage which is doing rounds on social media sites shows how a car was driving in circles at the intersection before at least three gunshots were fired. It shows how people ran away from the spot while some people helped the injured lying on the ground.
Responders, including law enforcement agents and paramedics, arrived at the spot and isolated the location right after the gunfight. Four victims were rushed to hospital, but it is unknown what the seriousness of the injuries was.
All victims, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, are thought to have sustained their injuries from the same shooting even though they were discovered at separate places on Whittier Boulevard.
An investigation was started and the authorities conducted a search for the shooter, who remained at large in late Sunday evening.
Investigations into what could cause the shooting are ongoing while authorities asked for help from individuals with any information or video footage.
The shooting has put a dark cloud over the celebrations, turning the jubilant atmosphere among football fans into one panic.
